When picking our roof color we looked at the Google Map satellite view and saw that most roofs that aren’t flat, are reddish colored. The white roofs, shown in the satellite view, are flat and not visible from the street.
Comments were made before and during the first ARB meeting, that a red roof didn’t seem to match the neighborhood. We have never been given guidance as to what color the roof should be nor why reddish isn’t considered typical of the neighborhood. We can not understand how to make any progress, especially given that from everything we can see, including from overhead photos, and from walking down the El Camino Real sidewalks looking at existing roofs, reality says that reddish is the most common color.
After the first ARB meeting our proposed reddish shingles were changed to exactly match the red roof of the “Americas Best Value Inn Sky Ranch” 3 buildings to the north on El Camino Real.
This was all documented before the second ARB meeting.
At the second ARB meeting, doubts were again expressed about the red roof we proposed. No guidance was given.
When we picked the reddish roof, the yet-to-be-constructed Hotel Caterina which will be 5 stories high had reddish siding on the first 4 stories and grey on the fifth floor. Our color scheme basically inverted this color scheme, using grey siding and a red roof.
Notice our building which is simplistically shown at the far left of the above picture. Our grey walls would have been roughly as high as the grey portico over the hotel driveway, and our reddish roof would have been at roughly the same level as the two reddish-sided stories over the driveway of the hotel.
Immediately behind our building is a large 4-story high condominium complex. The condominium complex has dark terra cotta colored walls and reddish walls. Our proposed red roof would be complementary to those colors.
Immediately to the left of our 4260 El Camino Real is the Cabana Hotel which has red roofs and grey walls.
2021-03-29 We have revised our building color to a warm color scheme. We are proposing our roof be a light grey, the upper half of our building is dark terra cotta, and the bottom half is light grey. Please view the building color web page.
